Chapter 1: The Enchanted Arrival
The sun dipped low over Florence, gilding its Renaissance domes and terracotta rooftops in hues of gold and rose. As Tatiana stepped off the train at Santa Maria Novella station, the city's warm breath greeted her, a mix of fresh jasmine from street vendors and the distant, bittersweet aroma of roasted espresso. For a moment, she paused, suitcase in hand, to drink in the scene. Her heart fluttered like the pages of an old, beloved book.
She was finally here in Firenze ( Florence ).
Tatiana had dreamed of this city since childhood, ever since her grandmother gifted her a well-thumbed book of Botticelli’s masterpieces. Now, Florence stood before her like a long-lost lover, offering its secrets and splendours for her to uncover.
The summer air was thick with possibility as she made her way to her rented apartment on Borgo Pinti. The cobbled streets hummed with life, artists sketching along the Arno river, musicians serenading tourists, and the gentle clink of wine glasses at café terraces. Yet, for all the city’s earthly charms, there was an undercurrent of something else, something ancient and unspoken.
That night, after unpacking and indulging in a plate of hand-rolled pici pasta, Tatiana wandered through Florence's moonlit streets. Her feet carried her instinctively toward the Uffizi Gallery. Though the museum was closed, she stood before its grand façade, her breath catching at the sight of the statues of artists and thinkers, their stony gazes alive in the moonlight.
As she leaned against the cool marble of the courtyard, a wave of dizziness overcame her. She closed her eyes for what felt like only a moment, but when she opened them, the world had changed.
Gone were the empty streets. Instead, she found herself amidst a swirling tableau of light and sound. Above her, a dragon, its scales glinting like molten gold, circled the heavens, its mighty wings casting shadows over the Arno. The air pulsed with its roar, both ferocious and oddly melodic........ to be continued in the book ...
